MANILA, Philippines — The total number of gun ban violators has climbed to 594 as of Sunday, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Based on the latest National Election Monitoring Action Center data, the figure was monitored from January 11 to February 2 this year.

Of the 594, the Comelec said that most of the violators were in 171 IN Metro Manila, 112 in Central Luzon, 74 in Central Visayas, and 47 in Calabarzon, among others.

The violators were mostly civilians at 552, while 22 were security guards.

Also included among the violators were a member of the Philippine National Police and five were a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, among others.

Last January 12, the PNP imposed a nationwide gun ban, as the election period begins for the upcoming May 2025 polls.

The PNP said the gun ban was aimed at ensuring peace and order by lessening gun-related violence during the upcoming midterm polls.
